Monday Melting, Week 2

“Like a piece of ice
on a hot stove, the
poem must ride
on its own melting.”
~Robert Frost

I confess that I have gone overboard in selecting today’s words. After completing the list, I began to fear no one would attempt a poem because the words might be too difficult to work with. So I made a second list. Feel free to use either list, mix and match, use all 20, write one poem or five, post today or anytime this week, and/or link to an older poem.

The only criterion for linking is to use at least one of the words listed below. (It is also fine to alter words as necessary, changing tenses, parts of speech, etc.)

List 1
1. timbre
2. de rigueur
3. percolate
4. marsh
5. char
6. damp
7. frail
8. dearth
9. wax
10. anima

List 2
1. acid
2. air
3. tepid
4. lace
5. ire
6. zest
7. docile
8. bend
9. uncoil
10. august

Have fun! And I’d love to get some feedback on the words I’ve chosen, even if you don’t plan to participate.

    I have an offering on the first list. It is somewhat, actually a lot, morbid. But that is what came out. Maybe something cheerful for the second list. A good exercise, thanks.

      I’m so impressed!!! I haven’t even started, nor have I the slightest inkling of a topic. I have one line scribbled somewhere, but I have no clue where it’s headed. I’ll probably find some time later tonight. Hope you check back in tomorrow! Reggie has an idea for a poem, so you’ll have to come back for his anyway. :)

      Happy Monday!

      I’m so glad you jumped in, Shay! I didn’t even send you the link this time because I didn’t think you were interested. What a pleasant surprise.

    Words of incredible challenge; both lists … just make me feel like you’ve thrown down some sort of gauntlet … but that’s today, tomorrow could be a whole ‘nother story …

      Well if you like gauntlets, consider one thrown. If you do not, then gosh, I would never do such a thing. This is all good, clean fun among sweet-spirited poets … albeit morbid thus far. :)

        Well, I have a story and a draft. I was up writing late last night and probably continued thinking about it while I was sleeping. It was definitely better around midnight than it reads at the moment. :) We have our homeschool co-op today, so I don’t know if I’ll have it finished (enough) to post and link to dverse this afternoon. I’ll try.

    Me again and still no blog. Don’t know that it’s worth it for one write a week :)

    Anyway, this one is quite simple and blatantly obvious, but I decided to use the prompt for another writing assignment: a lenten devotional our church is producing. Here’s the result using a mixture of both lists:

    No dearth of suffering;
    You offered up Your body,
    becoming frail.

    No tepid resolve;
    You rebuked temptation–
    enemy’s uncoiled tale.

    Bend, don’t break;
    40 days in wilderness
    and damp marsh.

    Such august response
    To waxed-poetic taunts;
    both docile and harsh.

    Victory!
    Fills the air,
    charred not by human weakness.
    Test completed!

    Zestful LOVE!
    Percolates:
    Overflowing; Transforming!
    Irate enemy has retreated.

    Oh, didn’t think to title it.

    How about “40 Wilderness Days”

    Shawna, will do my best to join up soon. I’m a bit in over my head right now. Wonderful prompts. Perhaps I can write something tomorrow when the Internet is doing the protest thing.

    Okay – finally pulled something together – not quite what I thought it was going to be but poems go where they want often, don’t they? Where’s A Cop When You Want One? can be found here: http://theblogamist.wordpress.com/2012/01/19/wheres-a-cop-when-you-need-one/

Be honest. And read it once more, just for good measure.
